What is VERTIGO and how can a Chiropractor help?

Vertigo is a common symptom in some people who have had a neck or head trauma at some stage in their life. This can be when interference has occurred along the nerve pathways exiting the spinal column.

A particular type of vertigo is caused by improperly-moving joints in the cervical spine often following a neck injury. This type of injury then forms a miscommunication between body and brain, which is when balance is effected.

These symptoms of vertigo are quite disturbing to our clients:

  • dizziness and or spinning even when laying flat
  • headache or migraine
  • nausea or vomiting
  • balance issues or leaning to one side

Vertigo may be caused by damage or disruption in the vestibular system, or the inner-ear. Chiropractors may help alleviate a specific type of vertigo, called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), by shifting the head in different positions to attempt to reposition the crystals inside the inner ear. This is a  painless technique with some great results seen in clinic.

Exercises like Dr Emily has described on the link below should help with easing symptoms.

If you suffer from vertigo then see a Chiropractor for some advice.
